About

I am Michael Brey, the author of The Value Standard and the founder of Value Lattice, an independent press in Bloomington, Indiana, and the home of the standard.

My training is in psychology, and the question that held my attention was the gap between how people act, how they believe they act, and what the record shows. The discipline I took from it is measurement: how to build an instrument that reliably measures what it claims to measure, and how to tell valid evidence from the performance of evidence. That is the discipline the book brings to enterprise value.

The Value Standard specifies the architecture for enterprise buyer decisions: the evaluation, governance, and verification structures that produce validated outcomes from capital. Kirkus Reviews called it “a forceful, thought-provoking explanation of a system for better results in business.”

I write for the people who own the result of enterprise decisions: CFOs, COOs, CPOs, and the cross-functional teams accountable for whether promised value arrives. The standard’s instruments, MAVEN, VIGOR, and VITAL, are open governance systems, free to use with attribution.

Value Lattice is not a consultancy. The standard is published to be used, and nothing here is sold beyond the book.

Everything I publish stays under review. Claims are checked, corrections are recorded, and the record is public in The Claims Register. If something on this site does not hold, that is where you will see it said.
